CHANGES TO THE START OF THE 2022/23 SEASON
Apologies for the sporadic flow of information, while plans for starting 2022/23 season have been reviewed.
As you are aware, following the ongoing hot and dry weather there has been long discussions with the RFU, local boards and Surrey Rugby to delay the start of the league season on player welfare grounds (ie the very hard grounds and the inability to run full contact training sessions/matches).
As this is a seen as a regional issue, the RFU have allowed some flexibility regarding leagues fixtures on Saturday 3 and Saturday 10 September to allow for pitches and players to be given sufficient time to be ready for full contact rugby.
Any request for postponing a game can only be requested during a small window around 5/6 days before the fixture, hence the late communication to you all.
Trinity RFC have requested to postpone the opening league fixture at home against Kingston RFC scheduled for Saturday 3 September (as have Kingston) and it is currently expected that we will also request for the fixture at Twickenham RFC scheduled for Saturday 10 September.
We are hoping to use these Saturdays to play some competitive preseason games.
We now anticipate the 1st XV league starting on Saturday 17 September with the match against Warlingham; and the AXV season to start in October. (See https://trinityrfc.com/surrey-rugby-announce-delay-to-reserve-leagues-season-due-to-hard-pitches/)
As you may expect, these best-laid plans are subject to change; the Trinity Playing Committee will announce regular updates over the course of the next few weeks.
All of us at the Mids would like to thank our coaches, players, supporters, sponsors and friends for their continued patience and understanding while these arrangements have been made.
