Trinity played their 2nd league game of the season at LMA with the home pitch looking magnificent and a perfect day for moving the ball. Preparation wasn’t ideal with some late drop outs and no-shows but those who did play turned out a fantastic team performance to win 15-12. Early pressure forced Kingston to infringe and Greeners slotted a cool penalty from just outside the 22 – the pack were carrying well with Russ, Dom, John R and Zou at the forefront of the action. The set piece was functioning well – both Jamie and Hoffy hitting their jumpers regularly enabling MattK to release the 3 quarters.
Despite making good headway pressure wasn’t turned into points and Kingston countered with a converted try after some positive play from their dangerous back 3. Trinity didn’t take long to respond, after strong carries from Jack and Fyfey, Rob Mitchell finished off strongly in the corner. 8-7 at halftime.
Bouch as capitaine roused the team during the half time break and Trinity came out firing, taking play into the Kingston half. Some last ditch tackles from both sides kept the scoreboard as was but Kingston took the lead with an unconverted try 8-12. The Trinity scrum had the upper hand during the game and after an attacking scrum near the Kingston line Sparky was able to pick and barge his way over to take the lead 15-12.
Credit to both teams who kept the ball moving and 2-3 close forward pass calls meant the score remained the same with Trinity taking the win. Shout to Ed Fyfe for his MoM performance and to those of the older generation who played out 80 minutes. Big weekend next against Old Whits where Trinity will be looking to continue winning ways.
