TRINITY A 14-29 LONDON MEDIA II

Due to heavy overnight rain on Friday causing parts of the A XV pitch at Lime Meadow Avenue to be under standing water the A XV had a last-minute change of venue for their clash with London Media! The fixture had already been switched from away to home earlier in the week due to a number of players having work commitments in the morning, so it was no surprise that players ended up in various locations causing a delay to kick off!

Trinity started well but suffered an early injury to prop Matt Austin however this did not affect their dominance in the scrum and the pack continued to provide the backs with plenty of ball on the front foot! This enabled the experienced David Stanton to pull the strings from scrum half and the maverick Matt Keeny at fly half to use his full repertoire of tricks to keep both London Media and his own teammates guessing what was coming next!

Trinity’s first try of the game came from a Kenny cross field kick which was gathered and scored by winger Ciaran Norman. Kenny added a further two points with a conversion from the edge of the pitch.

London Media came back into the game by scoring off of a charged down kick, however the conversion was missed!

If Trinity’s first try was all about flair their second was definitely about pure grunt! Following a number of carries from the base of the ruck Ben Donovan managed to pick and stretch for the try line! Kenny again converted this time with first the aid of the post and then the crossbar.

London Media again came back and got a second try which this time was converted to leave the half time score 14-12 to Trinity.

The first 20 minutes of the second half was spent entirely in the London Media 22 however Trinity could not get the points their possession deserved as the ball was either spilt in the carry, dropped when receiving a pass or passed forward!

Trinity were made to pay for failing to capitalise on their possession! A couple of penalties in a row saw Trinity marched back 10 meters and on the back foot which London Media took full advantage of to take a 14-19 lead!

With time and the light working against Trinity, they were reduced to 14 men when debutant Ollie Dixon was adjudged to have pulled back him opponent as both chased a kick. London Media kicked the resulting penalty to make it 14-22.

There was still time left for a Trinity player to score with debutant Jack Porter scoring from an overlap in the corner! The only issue for Trinity was that Porter was playing for London Media as they had only turned up with 14 men! The try was converted to give a final score of 14-29.

Trinity left the field delated as they knew this was a game they should have won! Tribe Man of the Match went to David Hoffmann in the second row for Trinity for his all-action display in both attack and defence!
