TRINITY VETS 33 EFFINGHAM & LEATHERHEAD VETS 19
Tries – Les Todd, John Broughton, Alex Glover, Nsa Harrison, Dan Crouch
Cons – Dan Crouch x4
The Vets welcomed E&L Vets to Lime Meadow Avenue for their first League fixture of the season under the floodlights on Friday night, 12th October. Despite very wet weather conditions both sides played out an entertaining match moving the ball to the wider channels and producing 8 tries in total.
The visitors got off to a strong start with the wind, slope and territory in their favour and were rewarded with a well worked try in the first 5 minutes after 7-8 quick phases of play. The Trinity old boys eventually got into their stride and put together a number of strong carries with Mark Butterworth, Nsa ‘Junior’ Harrison and Russell ‘Not so Junior’ Jones at the forefront. After a line break from Mark Macaskill, Trinity scored a try in the corner by Les Todd having worked an overlap which Dan Crouch spotted. Crouch slotted the conversion. The old boys scored one more try in the first half which came from good hands by Jones who fed Alex Glover who strolled in under the posts. Half time Trinity 14 – 7 Effingham.
With the conditions in their favour Trinity started the second half strongly and scored tries from John Broughton, Junior and Dan Crouch. Bruffy produced a masterful performance at 10 organising the pack and shipping quality ball to Macaskill and Bell in the centres. Junior’s try was a the result of a bulldozing run from quick ruck ball swatting defenders away and dotting down under the sticks. Crouchy’s try was a fine finish from the unfamiliar position of left wing, showing pace and a step to evade the covering defence. Effingham battled well throughout the contest and finished the game strongly with two late scores, their 10 and 15 were probably the standout players and produced a few moments of magic.
Overall a good win for Trinity Vets who look forward to their next league game against Old Ruts on the weekend of 23rd November followed by a cup game against Teddington.
