JOHN CRATE
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of former Club President John Crate, following a courageous battle with leukaemia.

John was not only a stalwart of the Old Mids – where he also served with dedication as Club Secretary and First XV Team Manager – but also a committed and long-standing servant of Surrey RFU. In recent years, he continued to give tirelessly to the game as a valued council member of the RFU.

John was a true rugby man in every sense, and his loss will be felt across our club and the wider rugby community. He will be greatly missed.

Surrey Rugby are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Council member John Crate, following a courageous battle with leukaemia.

John dedicated more than 20 years to Surrey Rugby in a wide variety of roles, including Competitions League Secretary, Discipline Secretary, and served on various Surrey groups.
He had just embarked on his fifth season as an elected Surrey Rugby Council representative on the RFU Council.

A former player and committee member of Old Mid-Whitgiftians (now Trinity RFC), John was also actively involved with CLOBS Rugby across London. His lifelong commitment to the game reflected his passion for rugby and his dedication to the rugby community.

John was a true rugby man in every sense of the word, and his passing is a great loss to Surrey Rugby and to the wider rugby family. He will be deeply missed.
